When we think of someone with depression, the first image that typically comes to mind is a person with an expression of deep sadness, who looks tired and who does not want to leave the house or even the bed. Although this description could be the reflection of a depressed person, the truth is that there are several different kinds of depression and they all have different characteristics, symptoms, causes and levels of severity.

Depression is a mental disorder that affects more than 5% of the world’s population. According to studies, the millennial generation may be at higher risk for different types of depression due to the increased level of stress, the increased number of hours spent at work, and other factors.

Here is a list of symptoms that could indicate you are suffering from depression:

  • Loss of interest in things that you once enjoyed doing
  • Lack of energy and feelings of exhaustion
  • Sleeping too much or too little
  • Feeling hopeless and helpless
  • Difficulty concentrating and remembering things
  • Recent weight gain or weight loss
  • Feeling worthless and/or guilty for no reason
  • Having suicidal thoughts

If you experience any of these symptoms, seek help from a specialist. In case of suicidal thought or actions, immediately call 911 and report the incident. They will be able to help you or advice you who to call or contact.
