Vulvovaginitis is a term referring to the different types of vaginal infections. Some of the most common infections and symptoms are:
Acute Vulvovaginal Candidiasis:
- The primary symptom of this disease includes vulvar pruritus (the itchiness of the vulva) and feelings of burning
- Erythema (superficial reddening of the skin) and edema (excess of watery fluid collecting in the cavities or tissues of the vulva)
- Thrush patches
- Thick white vaginal discharge
Chronic Vulvovaginal Candidiasis:
- Edema (excess of watery fluid collecting in the cavities or tissues of the vulva)
and lichenification (a skin condition that occurs in response to excessive itching or rubbing of the skin) of the vulva
- Grayish sheen made up of epithelial cells and organism covering the area
- Severe pruritus and burning
- Irritation
- Pain
Atrophic vaginitis
- Vaginal soreness
- Feeling of burning after sexual intercourse
- Feeling pain or discomfort during sexual intercourse
- Burning white or yellow discharge
- Occasional spotting
